On 26-28 June 2019, CFIA hub manager Kenya Elsie Onsongo will give a paper presentation at EURAM 2019 in Lisbon, Portugal. The paper, written jointly by Elsie Onsongo, Peter Knorringa and Cees van Beers, is titled "Frugal Business Model Innovation in Healthcare: The Case of Philips Community Life Centres".
The paper investigates the process of frugal business model innovation. How does a multinational engage in frugal business model innovation over time, in an effort to find the optimal balance between value creation and value capture in a resource-constrained context? During her presentation, Elsie will discuss relevant findings resulting from the analysis of the case of Community Life Centres (a primary healthcare innovation developed by Philips). She will explain, for instance, how one business model can be customized to different geographical markets. What elements of business models remain static, and which are dynamic?
